Find out if your digestive problems could be a warning sign.

Whether you are at risk for colon cancer or not it’s important that you see your Clearwater gastroenterologists Dr. Umesh Choudhry and CancerDr. Gourisankar Degala if you are noticing any digestive changes or disconcerting symptoms.

What are the symptoms of colon cancer?

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms then it’s time to visit our Clearwater, FL office for proper GI treatment:

  • A change in bowel habits (e.g. constipation; diarrhea) that lasts several days
  • The feeling of needing to have a bowel movement even when you don’t
  • Abdominal pain and/or cramping
  • Weight loss
  • Rectal bleeding or blood in the stool
  • Feeling malaise or fatigued

Do keep in mind that these symptoms are indicative of many other less life-threatening conditions. Coming into our office will help provide a proper diagnosis for what’s causing these symptoms and what your treatment options are.

Should I get a colon cancer screening?

It’s always best to be tested before you even experience symptoms. Usually symptoms don’t appear until the cancer has spread, which is why screenings are so important. Through these screenings we can sometimes find polyps and remove them before they become cancerous.

The American Cancer Society recommends that everyone over 50 years old start getting regular colon cancer screenings. Those with a family history of colon cancer or those with other risk factors should talk to us about how often they should be screened. Once you come in for your first screening we’ll be able to determine how often you should be screened in the future.

Don’t ignore what your body is trying to tell you. The sooner you seek treatment the better. Let the GI specialists at Advanced Digestive Care in Clearwater give you the individualized care you deserve. Schedule an appointment with us today.
